You don’t have to spend money

Everyone strives to be happy. Unfortunately, our brains aren’t wired for happiness. That often makes it elusive and hard to come by. We have periods of bliss, but too often, persistent negative emotions hinder us from reaching our state of actualization.

I learned that we can trick our brain into being happy. By retraining your brain, you can reinforce the habit of thinking more positively and decrease negative thoughts.

No, I did not spend a fortune on self-development programs.

No, I did not pack my bags and move to the Himalayas.

Neither did I spend hours talking to a therapist.

What was my secret?

I quit TV.

Improving your life doesn’t have to be about making one gigantic leap. Sometimes, it comes down to the little things you do every day that may subtly affect your mental and emotional state. Negative emotions not only affect your state of happiness, but it can also create stress in your body and your mind, contributing to health issues if not properly manage.

I discovered that quitting TV has tremendously improved my emotional state and help me reclaim my life.

Here’s what I learned.

The average shows today reduce our consciousness level by resonating in fear, guilt, grief, desire, and pride. Ask yourself, how often does the show you watch cause you to be happy, joyful, motivated, and inspired? Or does it result in worry, fear, irritation, disgust, angst, stress, and sadness?

Movies create such visceral responses in us. There are cells in our brain called mirror neurons that fire up when we watch other’s doing similar actions. We react in the same way to the information that flows into our brains through our eyes and ears.

Unfortunately, our brain won’t know the difference between real or perceived and this can activate the fight-or-flight response, causing havoc in our system. When you watch a movie, you…
