Hack the Crisis hackaton is a virtual 48-hours initiative originally from Estonia, aimed to fight the most urgent COVID19 related challenges in the fields of healthcare, small businesses and communities by generating digital ideas and forging applicable solutions.

Besides the well-known COVID19 related problems, in Hungary, there are fewer health professionals per capita than in most EU countries, especially in poor regions while the average population is aging. What is more, the healthcare system has not yet reached its full potential when it comes to digitalization offering great oportunities to improve efficiency of operations and processes as well as the productivity in communication, data and knowledge sharing while reducing administrative workload.

People with symptoms or lack of information contact us either directly via web/app interface or are forwarded from the emergency services / healthcare lines to our chatbot / call center, where their case is qualified and prioritized through a 3 stage process.

First, an automated questionnaire determines if general information or further engagement is required. Since we focus on including the elderly and non digital-natives while creating jobs instead of relying on full automation, inquiries are answered by call agents or isolated helthcare professionals as part of the second qualification stage.

Agents provide further services from general guidance (for non-emergency cases) and arranging conversation with mental health support to acting as a GP’s assistant scheduling virtual/tele consultations etc. After the consultation -in the third and final stage - GPs take ownership and decide next steps.

Although our non-profit solution was designed to solve challenges caused by the pandemic, in the long run, we would engage the private sector to improve healthcare service offerings and provide a better experience to customers and healthcare professionals while creating new jobs for agents.
