I Was Dreaming

I was dreaming. What if I climbed to the clouds? What would I find? I was thinking. What if I left the road behind? Where would it take me?

Someplace so familiar, yet so unfamiliar. Still anchored to this life, weighted by gravity, still focused to the ground. But to soar beyond, if only for a moment.

And to my surprise, there were others. Contemplating the same passing cloud, in stillness between one dream and another. A waiting place at a confluence in time.

So, we’ll settle together. And share the the human task, in a world of shifting skies. We can wedge a temporary stake with each other. Knowing that it will soon be gone.

And this brings a stillness, a vacuum that is absorbed by life, as if springing from the earth. The moment multiplies in form after form, a tenderness passing.

I see what you see. I feel what you feel. Caught between worlds of mystery and necessity. We come together and speak of unknowable things, to sooth our souls.

Even our laughter rising to darkness of the skies, returns to wonder. The ballast of living in a question. We all share the common fragility, a step away from nothing,

I dream an offering, passing from my mind, through my heart, and into the palms of another. I receive a blessing, in turn, and drift away. Back to the world I came from.
