One of the challenges I faced automating was to use different datasets from two different environments on the same test scripts. To address this challenge, I created test data directories for two…
When we started working remotely after COVID19, Slack became our office. All conversations were integrated into Slack, and for the first few months, it seemed to work fine. However, many people felt that it was difficult to follow what was going on and where, as the conversation was spread randomly throughout numerous channels, threads, and even DMs.
What was particularly puzzling was being invited to channels. We would have no idea what was going on as someone would constantly be creating new channels and inviting us in.
This is the real(that no one ever told you about) reason why we can’t escape the channels. Every channel you may be mentioned in equals a potential channel invitation. In other words, you can’t break this vicious cycle just by leaving the channel, because you could be invited again anytime!
Turn on Show All Unreads option! Always keep all messages read!
Mute the channel! What? It may sound strange, but just try it. Just use it once. A peaceful silence will come over the world.
For muted channels:
If you have a chat room like random or chat, don’t mute it! We don’t have to sacrifice all of your leisure to use Slack effectively.
Try to use the message reminder.
When you check for new messages through ‘All unreads’, sometimes you may want to check some messages again or at a later time. With message reminder, you can set a reminder and then mark them as read.
Try to use ‘save’ and ‘pin’. It is very easy to lose messages in Slack. Consider saving messages that will be useful for the short term and creating documentations for those that will be useful in the long run. Pin messages that need to be shared to all channel members. Pinned messages can also act as onboarding documents themselves.
Do not look at Slack outside of business hours! Slack is a powerful tool, but it’s easy to break the balance between work and life.
While Do Not Disturb(DND) is on:
On my travel Sabbatical, I took a much-needed break from reading business books, and even as I’ve started working on a business the last few months, I haven’t really gone back. But I just finished…
You is the singular. Just you. Sure, you could add up “me, myself, and I” and possibly form a possé of three, but hold on. Let’s call “you” just you in the singular. Then “youx,” is not a real word…
